UPI Without Mobile Internet: RBI Unveils ‘Tap And Pay’, MyUPI For Easier And Safer Digital Payments

UPI payments are set to become more convenient with the RBI’s introduction of UPI Tap and Pay and MyUPI. Tap and Pay allows users with NFC-enabled smartphones to make payments at compatible POS terminals by unlocking their phones and tapping them on the machine, even without mobile internet. The transaction uses the POS terminal’s internet connection. Payments up to ₹5,000 can be made without entering a UPI PIN, while larger transactions require authentication. Alongside this, MyUPI, developed by NPCI, will provide AI-powered multilingual customer support, transaction information, safety controls and payment management tools. Features such as Safety Switch, UPI Number Delink, beneficiary information, automated chargebacks and Transaction Replay aim to improve security and user control, marking a new phase in India’s digital payments ecosystem.
