Vivek Joshi & SS Sandhu: The 2 Election Commissioners Who ‘Raised Objections’ Over SIR, Form-6

Vivek Joshi and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, two of India’s three Election Commissioners, are in the spotlight amid the ongoing debate over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. A report by The Indian Express said the two Commissioners had raised objections over issues including voter registration, deletion of names, electoral database access and changes to Form 6. Joshi, a 1989-batch IAS officer, joined the Election Commission in February 2025 after holding senior positions in the Haryana and Central governments. Sandhu, a 1988-batch IAS officer, joined the poll panel in March 2024 after serving as Uttarakhand Chief Secretary and NHAI Chairman. Sandhu was also issued a notice during the SIR exercise in Delhi over a mismatch between his name on the enumeration form and the electoral roll.
