‘Will Never Be Forgiven’: Amit Shah Slams Sonia Gandhi; BJP Lodges Complaint Over Vande Mataram Row
BJP leaders have filed a formal complaint against Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi at Urwa Police Station in Karnataka, escalating the political row over the recitation of Vande Mataram at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi on Independence Day. BJP leaders alleged that senior Congress leaders appeared to speak among themselves during the National Song, calling it disrespectful. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also accused Sonia Gandhi of asking party leaders to stop the rendition and said the alleged act would not be forgiven by the people. Congress rejected the allegations, saying there was no attempt to stop Vande Mataram and that Sonia was only ensuring arrangements, including asking for a chair for Mallikarjun Kharge. BJP MLA Sumitro Chatterjee also sought an unconditional apology from Sonia, citing his lineage to Vande Mataram’s author Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
