'You Are Not Gen-Z...Broke Bond Very Next Day': Delhi HC Raps CJP's Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka

The Delhi High Court’s “You Are Not Gen Z” remark drew attention during a hearing involving Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, 27, and Ashutosh Ranka, 32, who challenged the extension of their judicial custody. Justice Subramonium Prasad made the remark after questioning their ages and the definition of Gen Z. The two activists later withdrew their plea seeking immediate release and challenging the Special Executive Magistrate’s order extending their custody until October 21. The court questioned why they had approached the High Court when proceedings before the magistrate were scheduled for the same day. It also raised questions about alternative legal remedies, stricter surety conditions and alleged repeated breaches of peace following their attempt to unfurl the national flag at Jantar Mantar in violation of prohibitory orders.
