ABVP Condemns Attempts to Protect Accused Professor Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations at JNU
New Delhi, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has denounced attempts by individuals connected to the Congress-Left ecosystem to shield a professor facing severe sexual harassment allegations from female students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The group criticized the dissemination of misleading information aimed at diverting attention from the core issues of student safety and justice.
ABVP has called for an impartial investigation into the complaints, insisting that there be no political interference in the inquiry. They demand strict action against anyone found guilty. Concerns have been raised regarding the internal complaints committee (ICC) at JNU, particularly regarding delays in the investigation process. According to Section 11(4) of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, investigations should be completed within 90 days, with reports submitted within 10 days thereafter. However, nearly four months have passed since the complaints surfaced, raising questions about the progress of the investigation. Following ABVP's protests, reports have indicated that action is finally being taken in the case. Instead of addressing the delays and accountability issues, some individuals associated with the Congress-Left have spread misinformation about ABVP's involvement, attempting to shift the narrative through alleged letters and claims. This is seen as particularly troubling, as it detracts from the serious allegations made by the students and the delays in the investigation. ABVP has made it clear that they will not allow any efforts to succeed that aim to protect the accused based on political connections or undermine the voices of the complainants. They insist on a fair investigation, protection for the complainants from any pressure, and a thorough inquiry into any attempts to influence the investigation or spread false information.Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, ABVP's national general secretary, stated, “It is unfortunate that some individuals linked to the Congress-Left are trying to tarnish ABVP's reputation and divert attention from this serious matter by spreading misinformation. Instead of ensuring accountability when ABVP raised questions about the investigation delays and demanded justice for the female students, they chose to create confusion. The safety and justice of students must take precedence over any political interests.ABVP's demand is clear: a fair investigation must take place, complainants should be protected, and strict action should be taken against anyone found guilty. We will firmly oppose any attempts to shield the accused or distract from the fundamental questions of justice.”
