Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar Takes Voluntary Retirement

Patna, September 26 (Udaipur Kiran) : Bihar's Director General of Police (DGP), Vinay Kumar, has opted for voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Service. The state government's home department has granted immediate approval for his application, submitted on September 25, 2026. Kumar, a 1991 batch IPS officer, had sought to retire under the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.Typically, a notice period of three months is required for voluntary retirement; however, the government waived this condition in his case, allowing for immediate acceptance. The order was issued by Principal Secretary Pankaj Kumar and has been forwarded to relevant authorities, including the Union Home Ministry and the Chief Minister's Secretariat. Reports indicate that Vinay Kumar is set to be appointed as Bihar's new State Chief Information Commissioner, with formal notification expected soon.During his recent leave, senior IPS officer Preeta Verma was given additional charge of the DGP position.
