Bocchi the Rock! Announces New Prequel Anime Film for 2027

The popular music anime Bocchi the Rock! is expanding its story with a new theatrical prequel film titled Bocchi the Rock! Hoshi no Ashiato, which is scheduled to premiere in Japan in 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser visual and promotional video, giving fans their first look at the upcoming project.

Unlike the main series, which follows the journey of Hitori Gotoh and Kessoku Band, the new movie will explore the past of sisters Seika Ijichi and Nijika Ijichi, revealing events that took place before the band was formed.

A Story About Seika and Nijika’s Past

The film will focus on the sisters’ relationship and the events surrounding their separation around ten years earlier. It will also explore the journey that eventually leads to the creation of STARRY, the live music venue managed by Seika.

The story is based on a special chapter from the fifth volume of Aki Hamaji’s original manga. This gives the movie an opportunity to explore a part of the franchise’s history that received limited attention in the television series.

Main Cast and Creative Team Revealed

Maaya Uchida will return as Seika Ijichi, while Sayumi Suzushiro will voice Nijika Ijichi. The production has also confirmed an experienced creative team for the project.

Shin Wakabayashi will direct the film, Erika Yoshida will write the screenplay, and Yukiko Horiguchi will handle character designs. Animation production will once again be managed by CloverWorks.

Japanese Release Planned for 2027

The movie is currently scheduled for a Japanese theatrical release sometime in 2027.

An exact premiere date and international release plans have not yet been announced.

The franchise’s previously announced second television season is also in production, giving fans two major projects to look forward to.

Kessoku Band Also Announces Asia Tour

Alongside the movie announcement, Kessoku Band revealed plans for its 2027 Asia Tour, titled To Asia. The tour is scheduled to begin in Osaka on March 13 and 14, followed by performances in Seoul on May 8 and Hong Kong on May 22.

The new prequel film will add more background to two important characters while expanding the world of Bocchi the Rock! beyond its original band-focused storyline.
