Celebrating Navratri: The Significance of the Nine Forms of Goddess Durga
New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : The auspicious festival of Sharadiya Navratri begins on October 11 this year. Over the nine days, devotees worship the nine distinct forms of Goddess Durga. During this period, many observe fasts, engage in prayers, and seek peace and happiness for their families. Each day is dedicated to a specific form of the goddess, each carrying its own religious significance.
On the first day, devotees honor Maa Shailputri, considered the daughter of the Himalayan king. Worshipping her is believed to bestow strength, stability, and self-confidence upon the devotees. The second day is dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, symbolizing penance, sacrifice, and self-control. It is said that her worship grants patience, inner strength, and the ability to face challenging situations. On the third day, devotees pay homage to Maa Chandraghanta, known for the half-moon adorning her forehead.This form represents courage and power, and her worship is believed to liberate devotees from fear and troubles. The fourth day focuses on Maa Kushmanda, who embodies energy and creative power. Worshipping her is thought to bring prosperity, happiness, and positive energy into homes. On the fifth day, devotees honor Maa Skandamata, the mother of Lord Kartikeya. She is associated with wisdom, peace, and the joy of children, symbolizing maternal love and affection.The sixth day is dedicated to Maa Katyayani, recognized as a symbol of strength and courage. Her worship is believed to bless devotees with peace in married life and the fulfillment of wishes. On the eighth day, Maa Mahagauri is honored, representing peace, purity, and gentleness. Many households also perform Kanya Pujan on this day, praying for happiness and prosperity.Finally, on the ninth day, devotees worship Maa Siddhidatri, who is revered for granting all kinds of accomplishments. Many families conduct Kanya Pujan and Havan on this day, seeking spiritual strength and success in their endeavors.
