CM Sarma Inaugurates Bongaigaon Medical College, Emphasizes Development
Guwahati, October 5 (Udaipur Kiran) : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Bongaigaon Medical College on October 5, underscoring the state government's commitment to development. Speaking at the inauguration, Sarma highlighted that the foundation for this project was laid in 2021, and its completion reflects the government's dedication to fulfilling promises made to the public.
Addressing the audience, Sarma emphasized the role of public support in driving such initiatives, stating that the power of a single vote has enabled the government to implement significant projects. He reiterated his government's principle that any project initiated must be completed and inaugurated. The establishment of Bongaigaon Medical College is part of Assam's broader efforts to enhance medical education and healthcare infrastructure outside major urban centers like Guwahati.The state government is actively working on a policy to set up medical colleges in every district to improve access to specialized healthcare and increase the availability of trained doctors. In recent years, the government has launched several new medical colleges across different regions of Assam to strengthen the medical education network. This expansion aims to reduce the dependency on larger hospitals in Guwahati for patients from remote and rural areas.The new medical college is expected to serve patients from Bongaigaon and nearby districts, providing local students with the opportunity to pursue medical studies closer to home. The Assam government has consistently expressed its long-term goal of establishing at least one medical college in every district, alongside expanding hospitals and healthcare facilities to meet the growing need for healthcare professionals. Sarma has often highlighted the expansion of medical infrastructure as a crucial part of the state's development strategy, particularly in enhancing healthcare access in areas beyond major cities.
