Authorities reported that a total of 33 complaints have been filed against the bank accounts used in these scams across various states in India. Prior to Sameer's arrest, three other suspects had already been detained in connection with this case. A mobile phone was seized from Sameer at the time of his arrest. The investigation began after a victim filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police, stating that unknown cybercriminals had sent him links via Facebook and WhatsApp.
These criminals deceived him into believing he could earn significant profits by operating an online store. The fraudulent activities took place between August 20, 2025, and November 18, 2025. Charges were filed under sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as section 66D of the Information Technology Act. Investigators found that Sameer was instrumental in facilitating transactions for cybercriminals by supplying them with his bank account, which was reportedly used to handle the proceeds of the scams.
The complaints against the implicated bank accounts span several states, including five from Maharashtra and Kerala, and five from both Telangana and Karnataka. There are also three complaints from Tamil Nadu, two from Andhra Pradesh, and single complaints from Bihar, Haryana, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Gurugram. Following the compilation of this information, Sameer was arrested on October 16. Sameer, son of Mohammad Nawab, resides in the Nathha Singh neighborhood of Jaspur Patti in Udham Singh Nagar.
The police are currently interrogating him to uncover more details about the cyber fraud network and the misuse of bank accounts involved.
