Devotees travel from far and wide to seek blessings and experience the temple's divine tranquility. Recently, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared a video of the temple on social media, highlighting its historical and spiritual essence. He stated, "The Devguru Brihaspati Temple, nestled among the peaks in Nainital district's Okhalkanda area, is a center of faith for many devotees. This site is revered as a sacred place of penance for Devguru Brihaspati." Visitors to this sacred temple often report a unique sense of peace, attributed to its stunning natural beauty and spiritual energy.
The temple is particularly significant for students, educators, and those involved in learning, as it is considered a source of wisdom and knowledge. Many come here to alleviate astrological issues related to the planet Jupiter. Special prayers are held every Thursday, where offerings of yellow clothing, flowers, and chickpeas are made. According to ancient beliefs, this mountain has long been a place where Brihaspati, the teacher of the gods, engaged in intense meditation.
It is said that during times of great turmoil among the gods, he would come here to reflect and perform rigorous penance. Legend has it that Lord Shiva, pleased by his dedication, granted him a prominent position among the nine celestial bodies. What makes this temple truly unique is that the idol of Devguru Brihaspati is situated under the open sky, with no roof or covering above. Locals recount tales of attempts to build a grand temple here, only to have construction halted when snakes emerged from the stones.
The stones became so heavy that no one could move them. After these incidents, the community interpreted it as a sign from Devguru, indicating that he wished to remain in the open air, leading to the cessation of any construction efforts.
