EPFO Launches WhatsApp Services to Check PF Balance and Passbook, Introduces Automatic Settlement of Small Accounts

Newspoint

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced new digital services to make provident fund management easier for millions of subscribers. The latest initiatives allow members to access important PF account information through WhatsApp and simplify the settlement of eligible inactive accounts.

The move is aimed at reducing paperwork, improving service delivery and making routine PF-related services more accessible.

Check PF Balance and Passbook Through WhatsApp

EPFO members can now use its verified WhatsApp service to access essential account-related information. The new facility includes:

  • PF balance information.
  • Latest five PF transactions.
  • EPF passbook details.
  • Personalised assistance and guidance.

The initiative is expected to reduce the need for subscribers to visit EPFO offices for routine account enquiries.

Automatic Settlement of Inactive PF Accounts

Another important development is the automatic settlement facility for eligible inoperative EPF accounts.

Under this initiative, accounts with balances of up to ₹1,000 can be settled automatically without requiring individual claims, provided the prescribed Aadhaar and bank-account verification requirements are fulfilled.

EPFO estimates that approximately one lakh accounts involving ₹5 crore could benefit from this initiative.

Faster PF Claim Settlement

EPFO has also reported improvements in its claim-processing system. The average claim settlement time declined to 2.57 days in October 2026, reflecting the impact of its technology-driven services.

These improvements are expected to make provident fund services more convenient for employees and reduce delays in accessing eligible savings.

What This Means for PF Subscribers

The new WhatsApp facility and automatic settlement system represent another step towards digital transformation in India’s retirement savings system.

Members should ensure that their Aadhaar and bank details are correctly verified to avoid difficulties with eligible account-related services. They should also use only EPFO’s verified communication channels when accessing personal PF information.
