Gas cylinder prices drop by ₹600; find out the latest rates and the reason for the discount.
Gas agencies in rural areas are offering discounts of up to ₹600 on 19-kg commercial gas cylinders. This has brought significant relief to business owners. However, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged.
During the initial phase of tensions between Iran and the US in April and May, the government had restricted the supply of commercial LPG. Today, however, the availability of commercial cylinders in the market has fully normalized and improved. In fact, the situation has reached a point where gas agencies have started selling commercial cylinders at discounted rates. Yes, this is absolutely true.
Where is the discount available?
A peculiar trend regarding commercial LPG prices is being observed in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district. Here, some distributors are selling 19-kg cylinders at prices significantly lower than the official government rate.
According to a News18 report, commercial LPG cylinders are being sold at ₹200 to ₹600 below the government-mandated price at certain gas agencies in rural Uttar Pradesh. While the official rate for a 19-kg commercial cylinder in Kushinagar is approximately ₹2,946, some customers are able to purchase them for between ₹2,400 and ₹2,700.
Why are gas cylinders being sold at lower rates?
It is worth noting that this price reduction has not been implemented by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). Commercial gas cylinders are being sold at a discount here because the demand for them is low in rural areas and small towns.
19-kg LPG cylinders are primarily used by restaurants, hotels, food stalls, sweet shops, and catering businesses. While demand from these sectors is usually high, some agencies have accumulated excess stock, which is now being cleared by selling it at a discount.
No relief on domestic cylinders
There has been no change today in the prices of the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders used in households; prices remain completely stable. Today, the price is ₹944 in Delhi, ₹941.50 in Mumbai, ₹968.50 in Kolkata, and ₹947.50 in Chennai. There is also no change today in the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder across the country; it is priced at ₹2,747.50 in Delhi.
