Government launches upgraded Dak Mitra, Dak Sewa apps; inaugurates 14 renovated Post Offices

The government on Monday, August 24, launched upgraded versions of the Dak Mitra and Dak Sewa mobile applications and inaugurated 14 renovated Post Office buildings across the country.Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani launched the new digital platforms and opened the upgraded Post Office buildings.Scindia said the Department of Posts is going through a major transformation with the help of technology, policy changes, organisational reforms and better infrastructure.He said the launch of Dak Sewa and Dak Mitra is part of the government’s effort to make postal services simpler, more accessible and useful for people of all age groups.The minister also appreciated the teams involved in developing the applications and modernising the postal network.

He said changes are being introduced across India Post to improve the way services are delivered to citizens.Dr Pemmasani said the upgraded applications, along with the renovation of Post Office infrastructure, are aimed at making India Post more technology-driven and citizen-friendly.He said Dak Mitra provides digital tools to postal employees and helps them offer several services directly at customers’ doorsteps. Dak Sewa, meanwhile, brings different postal services together on a single digital platform and is available in 23 Indian languages.According to the government, the upgraded Dak Mitra application will serve as a common operational platform for more than 1.4 lakh Branch Post Offices.The application is being used on Android-based handheld devices and allows Branch Postmasters to carry out paperless and real-time postal as well as financial transactions.Through the platform, officials can provide services such as mail booking, OTP-based doorstep delivery, Core Banking Services, insurance-related services, Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC, cash deposits and withdrawals, and collection of Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance premiums at customers’ doorsteps.The government said these initiatives are part of efforts to combine India Post’s wide physical network and trusted services with faster and more convenient digital solutions.
