Hanuman Ansh OTT release: Where to watch hit film about Neem Karoli Baba after surprise box office success? Director Vishal Chaturvedi opens up
Hanuman Ansh has been touted as one of the year’s biggest surprise hits, with its box-office numbers showing no signs of slowing down. The film witnessed another strong jump on Thursday, further strengthening its position at the ticket window and surpassing Yash's Toxic in Thursday collections. Now, there is an update regarding its digital release for those wondering when and where they can watch the film online.

Hanuman Ansh turns into a surprise box office hit
Hanuman Ansh has taken an unexpected route at the box office. The devotional drama had a quiet beginning when it arrived in theatres on August 7, but its fortunes changed considerably after the first two weeks.
The film has now crossed the Rs 80 crore mark in India net collections, which is a remarkable turnaround considering how slowly it started. It has also managed to surpass Toxic in Thursday collections, adding another interesting chapter to its theatrical run.
The film's performance has caught the attention of the industry because its initial numbers gave little indication of the success that was to come. Hanuman Ansh earned only around Rs 10 lakh on its opening day. Its first week ended with approximately Rs 1.80 crore, while the second week added just around Rs 40 lakh.
The real change came in the third week. As more viewers began recommending the film, its shows started seeing a rise in footfalls. Some screenings eventually turned into house-full shows, giving the film the momentum it needed.
The third week brought in Rs 10.40 crore, a significant jump compared with the previous two weeks. The fourth week was even stronger, with the film collecting around Rs 61 crore.
As per the figures provided, Hanuman Ansh has now recorded an India gross collection of Rs 96.03 crore, while its India net stands at Rs 81.41 crore.
Director reveals film was rejected by OTT platform
While audiences are celebrating the film's theatrical success, director Vishal Chaturvedi has revealed that the journey was not always easy. Before the movie reached theatres, he had approached an OTT platform with the story.
Speaking to India TV, he recalled pitching the story of Neem Karoli Baba to the platform. He said the platform recognised the story's Indian roots and its potential for an international audience, but ultimately rejected the project.
The director said he was not surprised by the rejection itself because filmmakers regularly hear no when they pitch projects. What upset him, however, was the manner in which the rejection was communicated.
According to Chaturvedi, the language used while turning down the project felt derogatory and insulting. He further added, "Mujhe laga jis tarah unhone reject kiya, jis bhaasha ka prayog kiya, woh thodi derogatory thi (The way they rejected, the language they used to reject me was derogatory). The way they said it, I felt that the narrative in their mind, the way they rejected it, there is a hole in their mind through the narrative. Now it is necessary to bust that narrative. We are filmmakers, we have been rejected a thousand times. You narrate a story and if you don’t understand it, you say that it is good, but we will do it later."
That gamble appears to have paid off at the box office. What began as a film with limited buzz has gradually turned into a theatrical success, with its collections rising weeks after its release.
Hanuman Ansh OTT release: Where and when to watch?
With the film's theatrical performance exceeding expectations, interest in its OTT release has also increased. Many viewers who have heard about its success are now waiting to know when they can watch the film from home.
However, the OTT platform and digital release date have not been specified in the information currently available. So, there is no confirmed streaming date or platform to announce yet.
Hanuman Ansh is based on the life of spiritual guru Neem Karoli Baba, also known as Maharaj Ji. The film is written, directed and produced by Vishal Chaturvedi, with Shobhinaw Satyaa playing the lead role.
The film's unexpected box-office journey has also changed the conversation around it. Stay tuned!
