On Wednesday, Harmandar Singh, the father of Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the Indian women's cricket team, expressed immense pride in the team's gold medal achievement at the 2026 Asian Games. He emphasized the importance of families supporting their daughters in sports.
The Indian women's cricket team secured the gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by a significant margin of 147 runs in the final match held on Tuesday, marking their second consecutive title at the Asian Games.
In his remarks following the victory, Harmandar Singh highlighted that this achievement is a source of national pride, attributing the team's success to their dedication and hard work. He extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for their congratulations and urged families to encourage their daughters in sports, stating, "One day, they will make you proud."

India set a challenging target of 216 runs, while Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 69 runs in 15.4 overs.
India's journey to the finals included victories over Japan by 8 wickets and a 114-run win against Bangladesh. Prior to their Asian Games success, the team had an unbeaten run in the Asia Cup, where they defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs to claim the title.
Bowling Attack Seals Victory
After scoring 216 runs, India's bowlers dismantled the Sri Lankan batting order, restricting them to 69 runs. Deepti Sharma was the standout bowler with impressive figures of 3 wickets for just 6 runs, while Shafali Verma and Shreyanka Patil each took two wickets.
India's batting performance was highlighted by Smriti Mandhana, who scored 79 runs off 45 balls, and Shafali Verma, who contributed 48 runs off 29 balls. Richa Ghosh added a quickfire 49 runs off 22 balls. Mandhana's innings included five fours and seven sixes, marking her 37th half-century in T20 internationals and making her the first woman cricketer to surpass 11,000 runs in international cricket.
