When the victim pleaded that he possessed no liquid cash or bank balance to hand over, the gang refused to abandon their extortion plot. Instead, they weaponized instant digital financing platforms to artificially create liquidity out of an empty account, highlighting an alarming new modus operandi confronting urban law enforcement agencies in Tamil Nadu.

According to investigators, the four kidnappers forced the victim into the three-wheeler and drove through multiple interior roads across the Pallikaranai sector while interrogating him about his financial means.

Upon discovering that their captive had no cash in his wallet and negligible funds in his accounts, the perpetrators seized his smartphone and ordered him under severe duress to download a fast-disbursal personal loan application. Coerced into applying for an emergency digital loan on the spot, the terrified youth completed the digital documentation, resulting in immediate loan sanction and disbursement directly into his bank account. Without wasting time, the gang transported him to a nearby ATM kiosk, compelled him to withdraw ₹9,500 in hard cash using his debit card, and promptly snatched the money.
Before fleeing the scene, the gang also robbed the victim of his mobile phone to prevent him from immediately calling for help or tracking their digital movements.

Deploying local surveillance sweeps and technical intelligence to retrace the vehicle's movement, investigators tracked down the gang and arrested all four suspects involved in the coordinated crime. The arrested individuals have been identified as 18-year-old Sai Abuthakir alias Abu, 23-year-old Poobalan, 21-year-old Sanjay, and 22-year-old Prakash Raj, all residents of Chennai.
