In a stunning turn of events for the upcoming fifth season of SA20, cricket fans will witness West Indies cricket icon Kieron Pollard donning the yellow jersey of Joburg Super Kings (JSK). This marks a significant shift for Pollard, who has been a steadfast player for Mumbai Indians and its associated franchises for over ten years. During the ongoing SA20 auction on Wednesday, Pollard was acquired by JSK, a sister franchise of Chennai Super Kings, for R 1.5 million.

This transition comes after Pollard's long-standing commitment to MI in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and its affiliates, including MI Cape Town in SA20, MI New York in Major League Cricket (MLC), and MI Emirates in International League T20 (ILT20).

Additionally, JSK's official account celebrated the acquisition with a post stating, "We got Pollard in yellow before GTA VI #WhistleForJoburg."


A New Chapter for Pollard and JSK

Currently, Pollard serves as the batting coach for Mumbai Indians and is the head coach of MI London in The Hundred tournament in the UK. He continues to play for MI Emirates and MI New York in ILT20 and MLC. Joining JSK, which has reached the playoffs four times, Pollard aims to enhance their prospects for clinching their first SA20 title, a trophy that has been previously secured three times by Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) and once by MICT in 2025.


Pollard's History Against CSK

Throughout his 12-year tenure with Mumbai Indians from 2010 to 2022, Pollard had notable performances against CSK, accumulating 583 runs in 27 matches and 23 innings, averaging 36.44 with a strike rate nearing 172. His record includes four half-centuries and a top score of 87*. Additionally, he claimed 14 wickets at an average of 27.57, with best bowling figures of 2/12.


Impressive T20 Career

Pollard stands as the second-highest run-scorer in T20 internationals, just shy of the 15,000-run milestone with 14,999 runs from 754 matches and 651 innings. His average is 31.71, with a strike rate of nearly 151, including two centuries and 71 fifties. He has also taken 341 wickets at an average of 25.36, boasting best figures of 4/15.


Pollard's SA20 Performance

In the 2023/24 and 2025/26 SA20 seasons, Pollard played for MI Cape Town, scoring 207 runs in 11 innings at an average of 29.57 and a strike rate of 171.07, with a highest score of 33*. He also contributed with four wickets.


SA20 Season 5 Schedule

The fifth season of SA20 is set to kick off on Sunday, January 17, at St George's Park, featuring a rematch of last season's final between the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and the Pretoria Capitals. The tournament will conclude with the Final at Newlands on Sunday, February 21.
