Light Earthquake Hits Uttarkashi, Measuring 4.2 on Richter Scale
Uttarkashi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : A mild earthquake shook Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand on the evening of October 10, registering a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt at approximately 8:07 PM, prompting brief alarm across various parts of the district. According to district administration, the epicenter was located about two kilometers northwest of Uttarkashi city, with a depth of around 11 kilometers.
Following the quake, officials collected information from all tehsils and police stations to assess the situation. Initial assessments indicated no reports of damage to life or property in the district. Areas such as Mori and Purola did not experience any tremors, and there were no reports of any unpleasant incidents from other regions. In the aftermath, the district administration reviewed safety protocols and potential damage. Officials confirmed that the situation across the district remains normal, with reports of stability from all areas.The administration is continuing to monitor the situation closely. Earlier, on October 6, a stronger quake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale had struck Uttarakhand, causing panic, particularly in Chamoli district. Tremors were felt in several districts, including Pauri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, and Nainital. Additionally, on the evening of October 8, a minor earthquake was detected in Palghar district, Maharashtra, with a magnitude of 3.7, classified as low intensity by the National Center for Seismology (NCS).The quake occurred at 7:16 PM IST, with its epicenter located 88 kilometers west of Nashik at a depth of 7 kilometers.
