Maharashtra Government Pledges Support to Drought-Affected Farmers

Solapur, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Dhanoore village in the Barshi taluka of Solapur district on Wednesday, where he assessed the damage caused by insufficient rainfall. He emphasized that the government stands firmly with farmers affected by drought-like conditions and announced plans for direct financial assistance to those suffering from crop losses.During his visit, Fadnavis noted that the region has received only about 50 percent of the average rainfall, significantly impacting nearly all crops during the Kharif season. He reported that approximately 90,000 hectares of soybean crops in Barshi taluka have suffered total losses. The Chief Minister assured that the government takes the drought situation seriously. He stated that a government decision to provide immediate relief will be issued soon, followed by the necessary procedures to deliver assistance directly to the affected farmers.Fadnavis also highlighted that the issues extend beyond crop damage, including concerns about drinking water, fodder for livestock, food grains, and educational fees for students in drought-affected areas. He mentioned that steps will be taken to ensure water availability for farmers in the upcoming Rabi season. Additionally, he discussed measures to reserve water from the Ujni dam for drinking purposes. The Chief Minister expressed support for plans proposed by local Minister Jaykumar Gore and MLA Rajendra Raut to supply water to Solapur district, indicating a positive government stance on these initiatives.Fadnavis revealed that work has begun on a proposal to bring water to the Ujni dam through flood diversion. The project has received approval from the World Bank, and the tender process is currently underway. Once implemented, this project is expected to benefit not only Solapur but also the districts of Dhule, Latur, and Beed. During his visit, farmers including Damayanti Gadekar, Sandhya Garad, Vandana Gadekar, and Rahul Patil shared their concerns with the Chief Minister regarding crop losses due to low rainfall and requested immediate government assistance.Fadnavis reassured them that the state government stands with the farmers and is committed to providing the necessary support as swiftly as possible.
