Meghalaya Schools to Receive Digital Education Boost Under MPOWER Program

Shillong, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : In Shillong, Meghalaya, 31 government and government-aided schools in the East Khasi Hills district are set to receive a significant boost in digital education through the Meghalaya Program for Adolescent Welfare, Empowerment, and Resilience (MPOWER). Officials announced this initiative on Friday. These schools will participate in the pilot phase of the program, which encompasses both rural and urban areas of East Khasi Hills.The primary goal is to evaluate how digital and blended learning can be effectively integrated into various school environments, making technology a practical component of regular classroom teaching. As part of this initiative, 47 teachers and four school principals from the district have undergone training in digital teaching methods. The training, facilitated under a collaborative program with the Meghalaya government's education department, was provided by the CK-12 Learning Platform.This program includes interactive resources, digital tools, and practical classroom applications. Students from grades 6 to 12 will have access to digital teaching resources in mathematics and science. They will benefit from interactive and adaptable content, as well as technology-based tools that allow them to learn and practice at their own pace. The platform features Flexi, an AI-powered tutor designed to offer step-by-step guidance and personalized support.Teachers will have the opportunity to develop teaching activities using AI-driven tools and data insights. This will enable them to identify areas where students need additional help and provide more targeted assistance in the classroom. Sampath Kumar, the project director of MPOWER, stated that technology can play a crucial role in making learning more accessible, engaging, and student-centered. He emphasized that this collaboration will bring students and teachers closer to interactive digital resources while complementing traditional classroom teaching.Officials noted that the initiative aims to provide students with high-quality, personalized education. The Meghalaya government’s education department will ensure the participation of the 31 schools. MPOWER will support the pilot project by ensuring ICT infrastructure, including equipment and connectivity, monitoring and evaluating the initiative, and reviewing its outcomes periodically. Authorities expect this initiative to strengthen conceptual understanding and interest in mathematics and science, while also assisting teachers in integrating digital tools and teaching data into regular classroom practices.
