NIA Arrests Two More Suspects in Attack on Manipur CMs Convoy

New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant strides in its investigation into the armed attack on the convoy of Manipur's Chief Minister. On September 29, 2026, the agency arrested two additional suspects: Jungminlun Singson, also known as Frankie, and Thangzoel Haokip, referred to as Thangboi. Both individuals were presented at the Special Court for NIA cases in Thoubal.Jungminlun Singson, 44, hails from Bethal, while 21-year-old Thangzoel Haokip is a resident of Gamphazang Tuibong in Churachandpur. The attack occurred on June 10, 2024, when unidentified armed assailants targeted the Chief Minister's convoy near K. Sinam village along NH-37 in Kangpokpi district. The incident left two security personnel critically injured and resulted in damage to government vehicles. Initially, the case was registered at the New Keithelmanbi police station before the NIA took over the investigation on July 11, 2024.Investigations revealed that Singson and Haokip were involved in planning and executing the attack alongside other suspects. They were previously arrested in connection with another case, and their recent detentions are part of a broader effort to uncover the conspiracy behind the attack. The suspects have been remanded to eight days of police custody. Ongoing investigations aim to clarify their specific roles, establish connections with other members involved in the conspiracy, and identify additional individuals implicated in the crime.
