NIA Arrests Two More Suspects in Saharanpur Fake Currency Case

Saharanpur, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended two individuals connected to a fake currency circulation scheme involving the Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The arrests were made on September 20, 2026. The suspects have been identified as Mukesh Kumar, son of Som Prakash, from Hasanpur Kadeem village, and Rajendra Kumar, son of Pyare Lal, from Kalyanpur village in Sarawa.Both men are close associates of the main accused, Aadesh Chaudhary, who is implicated in the conspiracy to circulate counterfeit notes through the PNB's currency chest located in Civil Lines, Saharanpur. According to the NIA's statement, on August 29, reliable information led the local police in Saharanpur to uncover fake Indian currency notes with a face value of ₹17.29 crore at the PNB currency chest. During the investigation, the involvement of three bank employees came to light, prompting the bank to suspend them.The case was initially registered on August 29 at the Sadar Bazaar police station in Saharanpur under FIR number 0431/2026, in accordance with Section 178 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023. The NIA later re-registered the case on September 3, 2026. Earlier, on September 7 and September 15, the NIA arrested named suspects Amit Kumar and Aadesh Chaudhary. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and apprehend additional co-accused and suspects.On September 16, the NIA announced the arrest of Aadesh Chaudhary, who worked as a contract driver associated with the PNB currency chest. He is considered a key figure in this counterfeit currency racket.
