Odisha Chief Minister Urges Students to Focus on Studies and Avoid Social Media Distractions

Bhubaneswar, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi addressed students on September 5, urging them to concentrate on their studies and avoid wasting time on social media. Speaking at a state-level Teacher's Day celebration held at a secondary school in Cuttack, he emphasized the importance of focusing on academic and career goals.During his address, Majhi advised students to steer clear of distractions that could hinder their future prospects. He stated that their primary duty as students is to study diligently, acquire skills, and contribute to both personal and national development. "This is the core objective of our education system," he said. Highlighting the relationship between teachers and students, Majhi called for a more harmonious bond. He encouraged students to seek success through the blessings of their parents and teachers.He noted that education is not merely a means to acquire knowledge but also a significant process of character building, a responsibility that teachers have upheld throughout history. Majhi paid tribute to former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, underscoring the unique guru-shishya tradition in Indian culture. He mentioned that teachers have played a crucial role in shaping the lives of great personalities, from Lord Rama and Lord Krishna to Chandragupta Maurya and Swami Vivekananda.The Chief Minister also referenced Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the "Missile Man," who identified himself as a teacher even while serving in the highest office of the country, reflecting the pride of being an educator. Discussing educational reforms, Majhi highlighted that Odisha has become the first state in India to provide free education from kindergarten to postgraduate levels. He announced the establishment of 2,200 world-class "Godavari Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools" at a cost of ₹12,000 crores and the opening of 45,000 kindergarten centers for preschool children.He reiterated the government's commitment to providing mid-day meals for students in grades 9 and 10, supplying textbooks, implementing the "Shaheed Madho Singh Handicraft Scheme" for tribal students, and filling 45,000 teacher positions over the next three years. Majhi called for collective efforts from teachers, students, alumni, and the community to build a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant Odisha, leveraging their knowledge, talent, experience, and cooperation.During the event, several dedicated teachers were honored for their commitment to education and shaping the future of students.
