Phone Camera Small Hole: Smartphones have become a vital part of our lives these days. When purchasing a phone, we focus primarily on its camera, processor, battery, and display. If you look closely at the back of your smartphone, you'll likely notice a tiny, tiny hole right next to the camera lens or flashlight.

Many people assume it's just a design, while others think it's a reset point. But you might be surprised to learn that this isn't just any ordinary hole or design, but rather a crucial security and calling feature of your phone. Let's explore the true purpose of this tiny hole near the camera.

This is not an ordinary hole, but a microphone.

That small hole near your smartphone's camera is actually a microphone. Technically, it's called a secondary microphone or noise-canceling microphone. Every mobile phone typically has a primary microphone at the bottom, which records your voice or transmits it to the other person during a call. However, this secondary microphone near the camera isn't for recording your voice, but rather for canceling out unnecessary noise around you.

How does this science of noise cancellation work?

When you're standing in a crowded area, traffic jam, market, or windy, there's a lot of noise around you. When you speak, the main microphone on the bottom of the phone picks up your voice as well as the external noise.

This is where the tiny hole next to the camera comes into play. This microphone captures ambient noise around you. The processor inside the phone then compares the two sounds. The processor preserves your voice coming from the bottom microphone and digitally cuts out any external noise coming from the rear microphone. As a result, no matter how crowded you are, the person in front of you hears only your clear voice, not the background noise.

It also plays a big role in video recording.

The second biggest advantage of this small hole is when recording videos. When you shoot a video with your phone's rear camera, this secondary microphone is activated. It clearly records sound coming from the camera's direction. Without this microphone, videos recorded with the rear camera would be mostly just your breathing and the person holding the phone's finger noise, and the sound of the scene in front of you would be very faint and poorly recorded.
