A guaranteed pension will be available every month under the PM-SYM Scheme.

There are several government schemes designed primarily for workers in the country's unorganized sector. Today, we're going to tell you about one such scheme, which provides a guaranteed pension of ₹3,000 per month with an investment of just ₹55. We're talking about the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PM-SYM). This scheme was launched by the Modi government in February 2019.

Who is this scheme for?

Unorganized sector workers, such as street vendors, rickshaw pullers, laborers, domestic workers (maids), and agricultural laborers, can enroll under this scheme, provided they are between 18 and 40 years of age and earn a monthly income of ₹15,000 or less. Also, ensure that the applicant is not a taxpayer or a member of any other government social security scheme, such as the EPFO, ESIC, or NPS.

The government also contributes 50%.

The most significant feature of the scheme is that 50% of the contribution is provided by the government. This means that it is a 1:1 matching contribution scheme. This means that the Government of India will deposit an equal amount into your pension account for every 50% of the contribution deducted from your bank account.

This means that if you contribute ₹55, the government will also contribute ₹55. This brings the total monthly deposit to ₹110. The premium increases with age, and the government's contribution remains the same.

How to apply?

You can register yourself by visiting your nearest Common Service Center (CSC) or online at the official Shram Yogi Maandhan Portal. All you need is an Aadhaar card and a savings bank account/Jan Dhan account (which allows for monthly auto-debit). As of July 2026, the number of registered beneficiaries under the scheme has exceeded 5.4 million. There is a network of approximately 400,000 centers across the country.
