Rajasthans Chief Secretary Enhances Transport for High-Risk Pregnant Women
Jaipur, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Rajasthan's Chief Secretary V. Srinivasan conducted a review of the '104 Janani Express' service at the state secretariat on Saturday. He instructed officials to strengthen transportation arrangements for pregnant women, particularly those facing high-risk pregnancies, ensuring they reach hospitals promptly. Srinivasan emphasized the need for better coordination between maternal health services and the Janani Express to provide timely transport during emergencies.
He urged officials to regularly assess the usage of each ambulance and identify areas needing improvement based on field reports. The Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of enhancing local operational management to optimize the use of available ambulances, ensuring timely transport for women in need. He also directed a thorough review of the daily operations of the Janani Express call center, which includes the entire process from receiving assistance calls to dispatching ambulances.Officials were instructed to link call records with monthly reports for review at the level of the Director of Reproductive and Child Health. This integration aims to improve the identification of high-risk pregnancies and the timely provision of transport services. Discussions were held regarding the future operations of the Janani Express, including options for management through an open tender process or a public sector undertaking. According to Jogaram, the Mission Director of the National Health Mission, there are currently 600 ambulances available under the Janani Express service in Rajasthan.Since January 2021, a total of 1,886,048 beneficiaries have utilized this service, which is managed by the Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society. All 600 ambulances are expected to be fully operational by July 2026. The meeting included key officials from various departments, including the Principal Secretary of Medical and Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education, as well as representatives from finance and public health sectors.
