Severe Weather Alert: Tornado Watch Issued for Northeast US
A tornado watch has been activated for New York City, Philadelphia, and various areas in the Northeast as severe thunderstorms pose risks of damaging winds, hail, flash flooding, and isolated tornadoes through Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service has indicated that this watch will remain in effect until at least 9 PM for all five boroughs of New York City, extending to parts of Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
In New Jersey, multiple tornado warnings have been issued as intense storms sweep through the region. A Tornado Warning was in effect until 3:45 PM EDT for southeastern Morris County. At approximately 3:07 PM, the National Weather Service reported a severe thunderstorm capable of generating a tornado located over Morristown, moving eastward at 25 mph. The warning indicated that the storm could produce a tornado along with quarter-sized hail, and officials cautioned that flying debris could pose a danger, with potential damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, and trees.
Communities affected by the warning include Morristown, Madison, Florham Park, East Hanover, Chatham, Morris Plains, and Hanover Township. The warning also encompasses sections of Interstate 80 between mile markers 45 and 48, as well as Interstate 287 between mile markers 31 and 41. Other locations under the warning include Dover, White Meadow Lake, Lincoln Park, Mountain Lakes, Parsippany, Kenvil, Pine Brook, Lake Telemark, and Morristown National Historical Park. Nearly 288,399 residents, 87 schools, and six hospitals are situated within the potential impact zone.
