Students Demand Action After Tragic Building Collapse in South Delhi

Satya Niketan, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : In a poignant display of anger and grief, students marched in South Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Monday, following the recent collapse of a multi-story building. The Students Federation of India (SFI) organized the protest, which began at the Satya Niketan Metro Station and concluded at Aryabhatta College. The demonstrators chanted “We Want Justice,” calling for better hostel facilities for students.Nirali, a student from Aryabhatta College, expressed her frustration to the media, stating, “Our elected union makes grand promises, yet its members avoid accountability on pressing issues.” She emphasized the urgency of their demands, citing the recent collapse of two buildings. “The rescue efforts have been painfully slow, and students remain trapped beneath the rubble. These are first-year students who were just left here by their parents a month ago, and now look at what has happened due to government negligence.” The five-story building, known as "Hostel Days," was operating as a boys' PG at the time of the incident, housing several students.Eyewitnesses reported that another nearby building also fell, raising serious concerns about the structural integrity of buildings in the area. The tragic collapse has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, with 12 others rescued. Search operations continue for those still trapped, as many students from nearby colleges were residing in the PG. In response to the incident, authorities have issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) for the building's owner, Hariram Bansal.The Delhi police have formed ten teams, comprising local officers and special staff, to locate him. This incident has sparked widespread outrage, with the Congress party labeling it not merely an accident but a “premeditated murder.”
