Tamil Nadu: Restaurant owner arrested over banner depicting Lord Ganesha eating biryani

Tirunelveli: Police in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli have arrested a restaurant owner for allegedly displaying a banner outside his eatery depicting Lord Ganesha eating biryani. The arrest followed a complaint alleging that the banner hurt religious sentiments.

The accused, 30-year-old Jayanth, was arrested on Sunday after 42-year-old Selvaraj lodged a complaint, alleging that the depiction of the Hindu deity was disrespectful and objectionable.

According to the complaint, the banner displayed outside the biryani shop featured an image of Lord Ganesha eating biryani.

Selvaraj alleged that the depiction was disrespectful to Lord Ganesha and had hurt religious sentiments. Based on the complaint, police conducted an inquiry and arrested Jayanth.

The arrest comes amid Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations across the country, with devotees participating in temple rituals and public installations of Ganesha idols.

Police have registered a case in connection with the complaint, and further investigation is underway.
