UPSC Recruitment 2026: Apply for 122 Positions Including Scientist by September 22

New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced an opportunity for young candidates seeking government jobs, which continue to be preferred over private sector employment by many. The commission is inviting applications for a total of 122 positions across various ministries, with the application deadline set for September 22, 2026.

Among the ministries offering these positions are the Geological Survey of India under the Ministry of Mines, which has 111 vacancies, and the Central Ground Water Board under the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation, which has 16 openings. The vacancies at the Geological Survey of India include 29 Geologists (Group A), 7 Chemists (Group A), 34 Assistant Geologists (Group B), 35 Assistant Geophysicists (Group B), and 6 Assistant Chemists (Group B).
The Central Ground Water Board is looking to fill 5 Scientist ‘B’ positions in Hydrogeology (Group A), 1 in Chemical (Group A), 1 in Geophysics (Group A), and several Assistant roles, including 7 Assistant Hydrogeologists and 1 each for Assistant Chemist and Assistant Geophysicist. The online application process commenced on September 2 and will remain open until September 22. Candidates interested in applying are advised to complete their registration by 6 PM on the deadline day through the official UPSC website.
Applicants must possess a Master's degree or MSc in a relevant field from a recognized institution. The minimum age for candidates is set at 21 years, while the maximum age is capped at 32 years, calculated as of January 1, 2026. Candidates from reserved categories will receive age relaxation as per government regulations. Selection of candidates will be based on the Combined Geoscientist (Preliminary) Examination (objective type), the Combined Geoscientist (Main) Examination (descriptive type), and a personality test/interview.
The preliminary examination is scheduled for January 10, 2027, followed by the main examination on June 19 and 20, 2027. When filling out the application, candidates are required to pay a fee of ₹200 online, applicable to general, OBC, and EWS candidates. Women, SC/ST candidates, and those with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) are exempt from the registration fee.
