Political History

The constituency has an interesting history. While TMC is currently ruling the constituency, there are other parties who have ruled this constituency for a long period. The Communist Party of India has won 10 times here between 1977 to 2011. The Congress has won on four occasions. The Communist party had a major dominance here but in 2016 TMC broke their dominance and won the seat.
There also has been a slow growth in voting percentage of BJP over the years. The vote share has risen from 11.27% in 2011, 12.72% in 2016 to 35.36 percent in 2021.

Candidates

The various candidates from various parties are as follows:
Sanat Sardar - BJP
Jharna Sardar- AITC
Rabindranath Mahata - CPI ( M)
Yudhishtir Bhumij- CONG
The result of the election will be declared on May 4.

Conclusion

After the RG Khar Case, Sandeshkhali has become a sensitive constituency. Although it is said that the BJP and TMC have now evenly placed, the January violence has affected TMC’s image. TMC workers in January attacked ED and media while their leader was found to be involved in a scam. The stakes of this seat are quite high and it would be interesting to watch if BJP will be able to take the advantage of this. The results are yet to be declared.
