NEW DELHI: One person was killed and six others injured in a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store inside the Solano Town Center shopping mall in Fairfield, California on Friday night police said. At least three of the injured were in critical condition.

The shooting took place at the store, which sells Halloween costumes and decorations, on the eve of the festival, the Associated Press reported.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at around 8:30 pm local time. All seven victims suffered gunshot wounds, including the person who died.

The six injured victims were taken to hospitals for treatment, police said.

Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall told reporters late Friday that officers were searching for a suspect. He did not disclose further identifying details about the victims.

In a Facebook post early Saturday, police said the investigation was ongoing and detectives were interviewing witnesses to identify the person responsible.

“This is still a very active crime scene. Detectives are speaking with witnesses and diligently working to identify the suspect responsible for this horrific shooting,” the Fairfield Police Department said.

Fairfield is about 37 miles (60 kilometres) northeast of Sacramento and around 45 miles northeast of San Francisco.

The investigation is ongoing. Further details are awaited.
