Florida woman accused of firing at Rihanna, A$AP Rocky's home indicted on attempted murder, 13 other felony counts
A Florida woman accused of driving across the country and opening fire at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Beverly Hills-area home has been indicted by a grand jury on 14 felony counts, including attempted murder .
According to The Associated Press, the indictment against 36-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz of Orlando was unsealed on Wednesday, a day after a judge ruled that she was mentally competent to stand trial. Ortiz appeared in court in yellow jail clothing, while her attorney entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. A judge ordered her held on USD 2.6 million bail.
Bullets hit trailer, nursery where children were
Ortiz had previously been charged in March with attempting to murder Rihanna and with more than a dozen other felony offences. The new grand jury indictment replaces those charges and could allow prosecutors to bypass California’s preliminary hearing process.
No one was injured in the shooting, but authorities said bullets struck an Airstream trailer occupied by Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. Gunfire also hit the exterior wall of a second-floor nursery where the couple’s three children were with their nanny.
The indictment includes 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper, in addition to the attempted murder charge. Ortiz could face life in prison if convicted on all counts.
Police say Ortiz drove from Florida with rifle
Authorities allege that Ortiz drove a Tesla from Orlando to the Beverly Hills-area property on March 8 before pointing an AR-15-style rifle out of the vehicle and firing at least 20 rounds towards the property and a neighbouring house.
Investigators found bullet holes in the trailer and on the exterior wall of the nursery. Rihanna’s mother and several members of the household staff were also inside the home at the time.
Ortiz was arrested later the same day. Investigators said she told them, “I wasn’t attempting murder.”
The case had been delayed for months while Ortiz underwent psychiatric evaluations. Records detailing those evaluations have been sealed, and authorities have not publicly disclosed information about her mental state.
Prosecutors have also not stated a motive or identified any known connection between Ortiz and Rihanna. Ortiz, a longtime licensed speech pathologist, had no prior criminal record, according to the reports.
