Tata’s journey was as remarkable as his legacy. After completing his education at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Tata returned to India in 1962, starting his career on the shop floor of the family business. He climbed through the ranks across various Tata Group companies and was appointed director in charge of National Radio and Electronics Co. in 1971.
In 1981, he became the chairman of Tata Industries , eventually taking over the entire Tata Group in 1991 from his uncle, JRD Tata, who had led the conglomerate for over 50 years. Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the group saw unprecedented global expansion, acquiring notable British brands like Corus and Jaguar Land Rover .
Today, Tata Group’s companies span a variety of industries, producing everything from salt to software, running airlines, and introducing India’s first super app. Recently, the conglomerate also made significant moves in chip manufacturing and is preparing to set up an iPhone assembly plant . The group reported a remarkable USD 165 billion in revenue in the last financial year.
