In the wake of Australia's triumph in the Cricket World Cup 2023 final, Virat Kohli , much like every member of the Indian team and millions of fans worldwide, found himself shattered.

Despite Kohli 's stellar performance with the bat, securing the player of the tournament title and ending as the top-scoring batter, victory eluded him as Australia, led by Travis Head , clinched the coveted trophy. Following the defeat, Kohli, visibly heartbroken, sought solace from his wife Anushka Sharma , who was present in the stands. The poignant moment captured in a viral photograph depicts Anushka embracing Kohli in an attempt to console him.

Kohli's innings saw him contribute a valiant 63-ball 54 before falling victim to Australia's skipper, Pat Cummins . The dismissal, even at that juncture, sent shockwaves through the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, leaving both Anushka and the spectators stunned.

In pursuit of a target of 241 runs, Australia, propelled by Travis Head's remarkable 120-ball 137, secured their 6th ODI World Cup title. Pat Cummins , the Australian skipper, commended his team's execution of a well-devised plan that proved effective in overcoming the Indian side on the grand stage.

"I think we saved our best for last. Couple of big match players stood up, and we're pretty stuffed. We've been batting first pretty much for the whole tournament, today we thought, it's a good night to chase down, we thought it might actually get a little bit easier. Everyone was pretty keen to get out there. It was a bit slower than I thought, didn't particularly spin probably as much as we thought either. Everyone adjusted pretty well and bowled some tight lines," Cummins remarked in the aftermath of the match.

With this defeat, Kohli's aspiration of securing the World Cup title for the second time has come to an end. The uncertainty of whether he will participate in another ODI World Cup lingers.
