WhatsApp , owned by Meta , is currently experimenting with a fresh camera feature that allows users to add effects directly within the app. According to WABetaInfo, this feature was first noticed last month and provides greater control over photo and video edits, reducing reliance on third-party editing tools.

This update introduces new filters and video backgrounds , which can be accessed via WhatsApp’s camera interface. Users can simply open a chat, tap the camera icon, and select the “wand” button. This will bring up options to apply various image filters or video backgrounds.

For images, filters include options like Warm, Cool, Black & White, Light Leak, Dreamy, Prism Light, Fisheye, Vintage TV, Frosted Glass, and Duo Tone. On the video side, users can select from backgrounds such as Blur, Living Room, Office, Cafe, Pebbles, Foodie, Smoosh, Beach, Sunset, Celebration, and Forest.

Users are able to mix and match these effects, either combining them or using them separately. Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced a " Low Light Mode " to enhance video calls in dim lighting and a " Touch-Up Mode " to improve appearance by smoothing skin and reducing blemishes.

Currently, these new features are available in WhatsApp’s beta version for Android 2.24.20.20, but Meta plans to release them to all users soon.
