The Nobel Prize is one of the most prestigious awards which are given in October every year to people or organisations for their outstanding contributions to their field of work. The prestigious prize is named after inventor, entrepreneur and businessman Alfred Nobel who in is will had stated that his fortune should be used to reward “those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind,” as mentioned on their website. And so, the awards are given annually in the fields of : physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace.

Shimon Sakaguchi was born on January 19, 1951, in Nagahama, Shiga, Japan. His affiliation at the time of the award: Osaka University, Osaka, Japan
