October rain: Gopalganj Sees 1,452% surge in first week as Munger lags behind

Patna: All districts, except Munger, have recorded above-normal rainfall in the first week of October, with Gopalganj receiving the highest 1,452% rain, followed by Sheohar (1,280%), according to India Meteorological Department (IMD). Munger, with just 12% of normal rain, received the lowest rainfall.

After the wet spell, the state’s weather is now expected to remain dry, following scattered showers likely in the northern districts and isolated rain at one or two places in south over the next three days.

On the other hand, the state recorded 135mm of rainfall in Sept, which is 38% less than usual. Kishanganj received the highest rainfall at 315.7mm in Sept.

The IMD has issued an alert for thunderstorms and lightning in 26 districts, including Gopalganj, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Gaya and Nalanda, on Tuesday. Winds in these areas are likely to blow at the speed of 30-40km/hr.

Maximum temperature is likely to increase by two or three degrees Celsius in most of the districts in the next 48 hours, and remain unchanged thereafter. On the other hand, no major change is likely to occur in the minimum temperature over the next three to four days.

The maximum temperature is likely to range between 30-32 degrees Celsius across the state on Tuesday and around 32-34 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

On Monday, West Champaran’s Valmiki Nagar recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 33 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of Patna was recorded at 30 degrees Celsius, against 29.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
