Lucknow: Breast cancer survivors must remain mindful of lifestyle and daily habits as treatment can have long-term effects .
The view was shared by experts at a programme ‘Pink Pledge' held at Medanta Hospital on Sunday.
Endocrinologists and oncologists highlighted post-therapy challenges, including fatigue, hormonal changes, and post-menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, irritability, and heartburn. The initiative provides ongoing monitoring, guidance, and practical advice on lifestyle adjustments , such as wearing breathable clothing, moderating medication, maintaining a balanced diet, and managing postmenopausal symptoms. The event, attended by around 70 survivors along with doctors, social figures, and citizens, emphasised the importance of early detection and continued care, noting that survival chances improve significantly when cancer is diagnosed at early stages. Experts addressed fatigue, hormonal imbalances, bone health, mental health concerns, and financial stress, stressing a holistic approach to recovery.
Dr Rakesh Kapoor, medical director at Medanta Lucknow, said recovery extends beyond surgery or medication, encompassing mental, social, and financial well-being.
Dr Amit Agarwal, director of endocrine and breast surgery, added that post-treatment challenges often mark the real battle, requiring constant support for hormonal, psychological, and social aspects.
Sessions led by Dr Roma Pradhan, Dr Manjari Dwivedi, Dr Shantanu Bharti, Dr Neelam Vinay, and Dr Resham Srivastava covered survivorship care, mental health, fertility, and elderly cancer management. Yoga expert Richa Awasthi and dietitian Saima Farooqui highlighted the role of lifestyle and nutrition.
