June 2025 Car Sales: Maruti Leads As Others Catch Up
India’s automobile market experienced a mixed performance in June 2025 as carmakers navigated changing consumer trends and supply dynamics. While Maruti Suzuki continued its long-standing dominance, its sales took a visible hit compared to the same month last year. In contrast, brands like Mahindra and Toyota recorded healthy growth, buoyed by robust demand for SUVs and MPVs. Meanwhile, others such as Skoda, Kia and MG showcased solid progress over the first half of the year, hinting at shifting preferences in India’s passenger vehicle segment.
Maruti Retains Lead Despite Dip in Domestic Sales
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, remained at the top of the sales chart with 1,67,993 units sold in June. However, this figure marked a 6% year-on-year decline. Domestic sales were particularly affected, dropping 15% to 1,21,339 units compared to 1,39,918 in June 2024. Exports also saw a slight drop, although its Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) supply to Toyota Kirloskar Motor rose marginally to 8,812 units, reflecting stable partnerships even in a challenging month.Hyundai Leans on SUVs to Steady Performance
Hyundai Motor India continued to rely on its strong SUV portfolio, which accounted for over 67% of its domestic sales in June. The brand sold a total of 60,924 vehicles, with 44,024 delivered within India and 16,900 exported. Although the company hasn’t reported major growth, the sustained demand for its SUV models helped maintain a consistent sales rhythm amid broader market fluctuations.Tata Motors Faces Setback in Passenger Vehicle Segment
Tata Motors experienced a notable decline in its overall sales. Domestic dispatches fell to 65,019 units—a 12% drop from the 74,147 vehicles sold in June 2024. The passenger vehicle division, including electric vehicles, dipped by 15% to 37,083 units. This signals a temporary slowdown for the homegrown automaker, which has been one of the key players in India's emerging EV space.Mahindra Gains Momentum with Double-Digit Growth
Mahindra & Mahindra stood out as a key performer, recording an 18% rise in domestic passenger vehicle sales. The company sold 47,306 units in June 2025, up from 40,022 in the same month last year. Exports also inched up slightly to 2,634 units. Continued consumer interest in Mahindra’s SUV lineup appears to be a strong factor behind this surge, aligning with broader market trends favouring rugged, multi-purpose vehicles. You may also like
