Kia Sorento India Launch on September 4: Premium 7-Seater SUV to Get Hybrid and Diesel Power
Kia India is set to expand its premium SUV portfolio with the launch of the all-new Kia Sorento on September 4, 2026. Positioned above the brand's existing SUV lineup, the Sorento will be Kia's flagship offering in the Indian market. The three-row SUV will be available with both hybrid and diesel powertrain options, targeting buyers looking for a spacious family SUV packed with premium features and modern technology.
Ahead of its official launch, Kia has already started accepting pre-launch bookings at dealerships across the country. While the company has not yet revealed the official pricing, industry estimates suggest that the Sorento could be priced between ₹35 lakh and ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in the premium full-size SUV segment.
Set to Rival Popular Premium SUVsOnce launched, the Kia Sorento will compete against established models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Jeep Meridian, MG Majestor, and Toyota Fortuner. With its hybrid technology, feature-rich cabin, and premium positioning, Kia will look to attract buyers seeking a more refined alternative in this segment.
Hybrid and Diesel Engine Options ExpectedThe India-spec Sorento is expected to offer two engine choices similar to the global model.
The first is likely to be a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid engine that produces around 238 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. This powertrain is designed to offer a balance of performance and improved fuel efficiency, making it attractive for urban and highway driving.
For customers who prefer diesel, Kia is also expected to introduce a 2.2-litre diesel engine generating approximately 202 bhp and 441 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, the SUV could be offered with manual and automatic transmission options. Reports suggest the Indian model may be available primarily with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup.
Spacious Cabin with 6- and 7-Seater LayoutsMeasuring around 4,815 mm in length, the Kia Sorento is expected to retain the same design and dimensions as the global version. Buyers are likely to get both six-seat and seven-seat configurations.
The seven-seater variant will feature a 60:40 split-folding second-row bench and 50:50 split-folding third-row seats. Kia's one-touch slide-and-fold mechanism will make access to the third row easier. Higher hybrid variants may also offer second-row captain seats in the six-seat configuration, enhancing passenger comfort.
Premium Features and Advanced TechnologyThe Sorento is expected to be one of the most feature-loaded SUVs in Kia's Indian lineup. Key highlights may include:
- Dual 12.3-inch digital displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Wireless smartphone charging
- Panoramic sunroof
- Power-adjustable driver's seat
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Electronic parking brake
- Head-Up Display (HUD)
- Touch-sensitive climate control panel
- Premium interior materials and connected car technology
The SUV is also expected to offer a comprehensive suite of safety features, including multiple airbags, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors, although Kia is yet to confirm the India-spec equipment list.
With its bold design, spacious three-row cabin, hybrid technology, and extensive feature list, the Kia Sorento aims to strengthen Kia's presence in India's premium SUV market. If priced competitively, it could emerge as a compelling alternative to traditional diesel SUVs by offering buyers the choice of an efficient hybrid powertrain alongside a powerful diesel option.
