Kiwa, KaM Auto host conference on EU trade rules for automotive industry: Details
Indian automotive manufacturers and suppliers are preparing for tighter European regulations on sustainability, product safety and environmental compliance as KaM Auto and Kiwa hosted the EU Regulations & Global Trade Conference (Automotive Series) in Gurugram on July 1, 2026. The conference brought together OEMs, policymakers and industry experts to discuss the European Union’s evolving regulatory framework and its implications for India’s automotive exports .
The conference focused on helping vehicle and component manufacturers understand compliance requirements that are becoming increasingly important for accessing European markets. A key part of the programme covered the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD – EU 2024/1760), which places greater responsibility on businesses to address environmental and human rights issues across supply chains. Discussions also examined the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD – EU 2022/2464) and its expanded sustainability reporting requirements for companies.
The conference also addressed other major EU regulations expected to influence automotive manufacturing and exports, including the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations, and the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). Speakers said these measures are expected to impact manufacturing, sourcing, product development and export compliance.
PK Banerjee, Chief Executive Director of SIAM, attended as the Guest of Honour and spoke about the Indian automotive industry’s readiness to meet evolving global regulatory requirements while maintaining competitiveness in export markets. He was joined by Raoul Mancke, Global Business Sector Leader - Sustainability at Kiwa; Jack Clisby, Director, KaM Auto UK; Anurag Bhakar, Product Manager - ESG at Kiwa; and Sahil Bangia, Principal Engineer at KaM Auto India. The panel discussed the practical impact of the new regulations and the steps manufacturers can take to strengthen compliance. The event concluded with an interactive session on implementation, supply-chain readiness and future regulatory challenges.
