New Toyota Fortuner 2026: Expected Design, Features And Engine Details
The next-generation Toyota Fortuner is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated SUV launches in India in 2026. Following the arrival of the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux, the upcoming Fortuner is expected to share its underpinnings and several design elements with the new pickup truck.
Test prototypes of the new Toyota Fortuner have already been spotted in India, offering early clues about the SUV's styling. Although the test vehicle was heavily camouflaged, the front-end design appears to feature eyebrow-shaped LED daytime running lights, a large grille and a revised bumper. The SUV is also expected to get a split LED headlamp arrangement.
At the rear, the 2026 Toyota Fortuner could adopt a more squared-off design, giving it a stronger and more upright appearance. Revised tail lamps and more muscular body proportions are also expected as Toyota looks to give its flagship SUV a more modern and imposing road presence.

One of the key expected upgrades is a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It could be paired with a 12.3-inch fully digital driver's display, replacing the more traditional instrument setup seen in the current-generation model.
The upcoming Toyota Fortuner is also expected to receive enhanced driver assistance technology, potentially making it more advanced than the outgoing SUV. Other anticipated additions include an electrically powered steering system and OTA (Over-the-Air) software updates.
These upgrades could significantly improve the overall ownership experience while helping the new Fortuner compete more strongly in the premium SUV segment.
However, the next-generation Toyota Fortuner is not necessarily expected to receive the entire engine line-up of the new Hilux. For India, Toyota could continue with the powertrain options that have already established the Fortuner as a popular SUV.
The current Toyota Fortuner is offered with a 2.8-litre diesel engine, available with both manual and automatic transmission options. A 2.7-litre petrol engine with an automatic gearbox is also available.
For the 2026 Toyota Fortuner, Toyota could make mechanical changes alongside the platform and technology upgrades, although official engine specifications are yet to be announced.
Toyota is yet to officially confirm the launch date, specifications and final feature list. More details are expected to emerge as the SUV continues testing on Indian roads.
