Skoda India Revives Diesel Engine Plans for Superb Sedan: All You Need to Know
Skoda Auto, the Czech car manufacturer, has announced its plans to reintroduce diesel engine cars to the Indian market, starting with the forthcoming generation of the Superb sedan. Petr Janeba, Head of International Sales at Skoda Auto, confirmed this decision, highlighting the company's exploration of possibilities to reintegrate its TDI engine specifically with the new-gen Superb model.
Strategic Reversal: Skoda's Diesel Comeback
Last year, Skoda silently withdrew the Superb from the Indian market as the BS6 stage-2 norms came into effect. However, with an eye on testing the waters, the company is gearing up to reintroduce diesel-powered Superb models via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route, with the first batch expected to arrive later this year.
Diesel Power to Diversify Skoda's India Lineup
In light of its 'India 2.0' strategy, Skoda has been thriving in the Indian market, albeit with a petrol-only lineup. Recognizing the persistent demand for diesel cars, particularly in the SUV segment, the company aims to expand its portfolio by reintroducing diesel engine options, starting with its flagship sedan by late 2024.
2024 Superb: A Blend of Petrol and Diesel
The 2024 Superb, which made its global debut in November last year, offers a range of engine options internationally. However, upon its arrival in India, it is anticipated to feature a locally manufactured 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit alongside a fully-imported diesel variant, catering to diverse consumer preferences in the market.
