India's midsize SUV segment is set for an exciting festive season as several automakers prepare to launch new models ahead of Diwali. The strong market performance of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara has encouraged rivals to introduce fresh products, making competition in this segment tougher than ever.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara has emerged as one of the fastest-growing SUVs in its category. Within just eight months of launch, it crossed the one lakh sales milestone, while monthly sales have consistently remained above the 10,000-unit mark. To take on this success, Hyundai, Honda, and Renault are preparing to introduce new SUVs with updated styling, advanced features, and modern powertrains.

Hyundai's New Midsize SUV Coming This Festive Season

Hyundai is reportedly working on a brand-new midsize SUV that is expected to arrive around Diwali 2026. Internally codenamed BC4i

, the upcoming model is believed to draw design inspiration from the globally sold Hyundai Bayon.

The SUV is expected to measure around 4.18 metres in length and will likely be positioned alongside the Hyundai Creta rather than replacing it.

Expected highlights include:

  • 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine

  • Manual and automatic transmission options

  • Factory-fitted CNG variant could also be introduced

  • Modern design and feature-rich cabin

Honda Elevate Facelift to Receive Fresh Styling

Honda is also preparing to update the Elevate with a mid-life facelift. While the overall design is expected to remain familiar, the SUV is likely to receive several cosmetic and feature upgrades.

Expected changes include:

  • Redesigned front grille

  • New LED headlamps

  • Revised front bumper

  • Updated seat upholstery

  • Refreshed interior trim

  • Larger touchscreen infotainment system

Mechanically, the SUV is expected to continue with the existing 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 121 bhp.

Renault Duster Hybrid Set for a Strong Comeback

Renault is planning to revive the Duster in India with a hybrid powertrain. The new-generation Duster Hybrid is expected to focus on better fuel efficiency while retaining the SUV's rugged appeal.

The expected hybrid setup includes:

  • 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine

  • Two electric motors

  • 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery

  • Combined power output of around 160 bhp

  • 8-speed multi-mode DHT automatic gearbox

According to the company, the hybrid system is capable of driving in electric mode for a significant portion of city journeys, helping improve fuel economy.

With Hyundai's all-new SUV, the refreshed Honda Elevate, and the return of the Renault Duster Hybrid, the midsize SUV segment is expected to become even more competitive in the months ahead.
