Educator and YouTuber Faizal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, is facing fresh regulatory scrutiny after Bihar Fire Services identified multiple fire safety deficiencies at his coaching institute in Patna during a recent audit.

The inspection at Khan Global Studies was conducted on Sunday as part of a statewide fire safety drive launched after recent fatal fire incidents in Delhi and Bihar's Muzaffarpur. Officials said a notice has been issued to the institution, directing it to address the shortcomings within a week.

Fire safety deficiencies found

Assistant District Fire Officer Ajay Kumar Sharma said the audit revealed several gaps in fire safety infrastructure, including the absence of a fire alarm system, lack of a fire pump and inadequate overhead water storage capacity.

According to officials, the inspection was also linked to an application submitted by Khan Global Studies seeking a fire safety certificate for a new building.

"Whatever deficiencies have been found during the fire audit, a notice will be issued. They will have to remove all shortcomings within one week. If this is not done within the stipulated period, further action will be taken," Sharma said.

Institute could face sealing action

Bihar Fire Services DIG Manoj Kumar Nut said the audit primarily identified shortcomings in firefighting infrastructure and occupancy management.

"Our objective is not to trouble anyone. Our objective is to ensure compliance so that loss of life can be prevented," he said, adding that failure to comply could eventually lead to sealing of the premises under the Bihar Fire Services Act and Rules, 2021.

The official said fire authorities have adopted a stricter approach following recent fire tragedies and have conducted audits at 60 to 70 hotels and hospitals across the state in the last two days.

Defamation case in Delhi High Court

Separately, Khan Sir has also been named in a defamation suit filed before the Delhi High Court by journalist Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network.

The lawsuit seeks the removal of allegedly defamatory content published against Kashyap and the network, a restraint on further posts and damages of ₹2 crore.

Apart from Khan Sir, educators Abhinay Sharma, Babita Tyagi and Arvind Bhadauriya, along with certain social media accounts and 4PM News Network, have also been named as defendants.

What triggered the dispute?

According to the suit, the controversybegan after Kashyap hosted a debate on Aaj Tak on May 29, discussing the growing influence of online "star teachers" and the commercialisation of education.

The petition alleges that between May 30 and June 4, several defendants launched a coordinated campaign against Kashyap and the network through videos, social media posts and broadcasts, using derogatory terms and making defamatory allegations.

The suit further claims that Khan Sir publicly revealed details about the school attended by Kashyap's child, exposing the family to unwanted attention, harassment and security concerns.

The matter is listed for hearing before the Delhi High Court.
