Gautam Adani becomes Asia's richest person again; surpasses Mukesh Ambani
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has reclaimed the title of Asia’s richest person after a sharp rally in Adani Group stocks boosted his net worth, helping him surpass Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.
Adani’s net worth swelled to $89.2 billion, putting him ahead of Mukesh Ambani, who has a net worth of $88 billion, and SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son ($87 billion), Forbes reported. Son notably held the title of Asia’s richest person before shares of the Japanese investment firm plunged on Thursday.

Adani Group stocks soar
Adani Group shares have seen a strong surge recently. On Friday, Adani Green Energy shares surged nearly 7% while Adani Energy shares jumped around 4%. Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone shares gained around 2% each, while Adani Power shares gained over 1%. The stocks have rallied 23-56% in 2026 so far.
Gautam Adani’s wealth has soared by around $10 billion since the US Justice Department dismissed fraud charges against the Adani Group last month. This came after allegations that the conglomerate participated in a $250 million bribery scheme over solar energy supply contracts spooked investors.
Prior to that, the stocks went into a tailspin after US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research accused Adani of stock manipulation and widespread fraud in what they called the “largest con in corporate history” in 2023. Regulators dismissed these claims last year, stating the allegations were “not established.”

According to the Forbes real-time billionaire list, Gautam Adani is currently the 23rd richest person in the world, followed by Ambani and Son.
