RBI Issues Fresh Alert on Rs 500 Notes: Here's How to Spot a Genuine Note Within Seconds

Counterfeit currency continues to be a concern as printing techniques become increasingly advanced. While authorities regularly take action against fake notes, public awareness remains one of the strongest defences. To help people avoid financial losses, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has once again highlighted the security features that make a genuine ₹500 note easy to identify. Alongside these built-in features, the central bank also offers a free mobile application that allows users to verify currency notes quickly and conveniently.

RBI urges people to stay alert against fake currency

The Reserve Bank of India has been consistently spreading awareness about counterfeit currency through its official communication channels. In a recent public awareness campaign, the central bank reminded people to carefully examine ₹500 notes before accepting them.

The initiative aims to help individuals recognise important security features that distinguish authentic banknotes from counterfeit ones. By becoming familiar with these details, people can reduce the chances of being deceived by fake currency.

Microlettering is one of the key security features
Among the many security elements printed on a ₹500 note, the RBI has placed special emphasis on microlettering. These tiny printed words are difficult to reproduce accurately, making them an effective safeguard against counterfeit notes.

According to the RBI, genuine ₹500 notes contain the words "Bharat" and "INDIA" in microletters on the fold of Mahatma Gandhi's shawl. Another important detail is the word "RBI" printed on the frame of Gandhi's spectacles. Additionally, the left side of the banknote carries the microtext "RBI500INDIA".
