LPG Price June 2026: Commercial Cylinder Costs 147% More Despite Just 34% Extra Gas

There has been no revision in LPG prices on Thursday, 11 June, 2026, extending the period of stability seen over recent days. In Delhi, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder continues to stand at Rs 942, while a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder remains priced at Rs 3,113.50.

Although the absence of a price revision may appear uneventful, a closer look at the numbers reveals a significant difference between domestic and commercial LPG rates. The disparity becomes even more evident when the cost is calculated on a per-kilogram basis.

Per-Kilogram Cost Highlights The Price Gap

A domestic LPG cylinder containing 14.2 kg of gas at Rs 942 translates to approximately Rs 66.34 per kilogram.

By comparison, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder priced at Rs 3,113.50 works out to roughly Rs 163.87 per kilogram.

This means commercial consumers are paying about Rs 97.53 more for every kilogram of LPG than domestic users. In percentage terms, commercial LPG is around 147 per cent more expensive than domestic LPG.

The figures are particularly striking because the commercial cylinder contains only about 34 per cent more gas than the domestic version, yet its overall price is nearly two-and-a-half times higher.

Businesses Face A Significant Additional Expense

The financial impact becomes clearer when the two cylinder categories are compared directly.

If a 19-kg cylinder were priced at the same rate as domestic LPG, it would cost around Rs 1,260. Instead, commercial consumers are paying more than Rs 3,100 for the same quantity category, creating an additional burden of approximately Rs 1,853 per cylinder.

For small restaurants, dhabas, catering services and food businesses that may use between five and ten commercial cylinders every month, the higher LPG cost can significantly affect operating expenses.

As fuel remains a key business input, fluctuations in commercial LPG prices often influence overall costs for food service establishments and similar enterprises.

Why Commercial LPG Is More Expensive

The key reason behind the price difference lies in the way the two categories are priced.

Domestic LPG is treated as an essential household fuel and receives government support through various welfare measures. Eligible households benefit from assistance programmes designed to make cooking fuel more affordable.

Commercial LPG, on the other hand, is sold at market-linked rates. Its pricing is influenced by international LPG benchmarks, global energy trends, currency exchange rates and operational costs borne by oil marketing companies.

Since commercial LPG is used for income-generating activities, businesses do not receive the same pricing benefits available to domestic consumers. Differences in taxes, distribution costs and marketing margins also contribute to the wide pricing gap.

LPG Rates Across Major Cities

While prices vary slightly from city to city, the overall pattern remains similar nationwide.

Mumbai currently offers the cheapest domestic LPG cylinder at Rs 941.50. Delhi has one of the lowest commercial cylinder prices at Rs 3,113.50.

In Jaipur, domestic LPG is priced at Rs 952.50, while the commercial cylinder costs Rs 3,152.50.

Chennai records a domestic LPG price of Rs 957 and a commercial LPG price of Rs 3,283.

In Lucknow, domestic cylinders are available for Rs 976.50, while commercial cylinders are priced at Rs 3,236.

Dehradun residents pay Rs 961 for a domestic cylinder and Rs 3,171 for a commercial one.

Kolkata sees domestic LPG priced at Rs 968 and commercial LPG at Rs 3,255.

At the higher end of the spectrum, Leh remains the most expensive market, with domestic cylinders priced at Rs 1,179 and commercial cylinders reaching Rs 3,752.

Can Businesses Use Domestic Cylinders?

Businesses are not permitted to use domestic LPG cylinders for commercial operations. Hotels, restaurants, catering units and roadside eateries are required to use commercial LPG connections.

Authorities and oil companies monitor misuse closely. Any commercial establishment found using domestic cylinders may face penalties, disconnection of supply and other regulatory action.

What Could Happen To LPG Prices Later This Year?

Market observers continue to watch international energy prices and currency movements closely. Global crude oil prices have remained relatively stable in recent months, helping contain major fluctuations in LPG rates.

However, exchange rate movements remain an important factor. A stronger dollar can increase the cost of imported energy products, potentially putting upward pressure on commercial LPG prices. Domestic LPG rates have remained protected to a greater extent, but significant changes in international markets could eventually influence future pricing decisions.

For now, LPG prices today remain unchanged, but the comparison between domestic LPG cylinder and commercial LPG cylinder rates continues to highlight one of the largest cost differences in India's cooking fuel market.
